How Does Cholesterol Cause Heart Disease?
With excess cholesterol build up in the walls of arteries and causes “hardening of the arteries” and arteries become narrowed and blood flow to the heart is slowed down or blocked. The blood carries oxygen to the heart. Due to blocked arteries enough blood and oxygen cannot reach the heart and cause chest pain. If the blood supply to a portion of the heart is completely cut off by a blockage, the result is a heart attack.
Watch your LDL-HDL and Triglyceride: The total score must be below 180mg/dl and the score is arrived by the equation HDL+LDL+20% Triglyceride. It is observed that those with high blood triglycerides the HDL will be at low levels allowing risk to health. Generic history, smoking, overweight, beta blokers will reduce HDL levels. LDL level raises with heavy foods. Triglycerides is the fat in the body and they should be under control. If the triglyceride level increase with low HDL or high LDL will develop fatty substance in the arteries and increases the risk of heart attack or stroke.
